CP Rail Crossing at Maple Meadows Way Re-Opens
At 7:00 am, Saturday, November 29, 2008, the CP Rail crossing at Maple Meadows Way was re-opened to public traffic. The new configuration is a roundabout consisting of three legs connecting Hammond Road from the west with Maple Meadows Way from the north and south. The roundabout is located directly south of the CP tracks under the Meadowtown Viaduct. At present there is signage and delineation to assist motorists and pedestrians alike. There are also seven flag persons (TCP) stationed in the vicinity. There is one TCP at the entrance of each leg of the roundabout, one TCP on either side of the tracks, and two TCP's at the intersection of Dunn and Maple Meadows. All the TCP's have instructions to assist motorists during this learning phase, to direct pedestrians to the designated walkways, and to ensure that vehicles do not stop on the tracks at any time. At the present time, the intersection of Dunn and Maple Meadows has been returned to a 2way stop in the east-west direction.
