Contact Council and Staff?

  • To meet with a staff member who is working out of the office tower you must report to the reception desk on the first floor of the main Municipal Hall and staff must come to the main hall and personally take the visitor to the tower.
  • If you wish to talk to Council, they have introduced a Community Forum at the end of the Committee of the Whole Meeting on the first and third Mondays of each month. Check the Council meeting schedule for changes due to statutory holidays.
  • If you want to be a delegation at a Council meeting contact the Manager of Legislative Services by e-mail, fax or mail indicating the topic you wish to speak on and the date on which you wish to speak. Delegations are permitted to speak for a maximum of 10 minutes.

Find Out What I Can Do With My Property?

  • To get a permit to bring in fill for your property homeowners should contact Environmental Services for information and application forms.
  • To find out when you can water your lawn view the sprinkling regulations which are in place from June 1 to September 30 every year.
  • To find out what the right-of-way on your property is for visit the Engineering Department which has copies of most right-of-ways and can tell you what they are for.
  • You can obtain a photocopy of your legal plan, showing the lot dimensions, at the Engineering Department front counter for $1.00. (Dimension information is not available by phone or by fax). A site survey, which shows the forms/foundation placement on the lot, is available at the Inspection Services counter, depending on the age of the home.
  • To locate your property line pegs look on your legal plans. If you are unable to locate the pegs using this information, you will have to hire a private land surveyor to re-survey the property and place new pegs. There are local land survey offices listed in the yellow pages.
  • If you want to have a recreational fire in your back yard they are only permitted in the Open Burning Area. Recreational campfires are permitted year round unless there is a complete ban on burning due to extreme weather conditions.
  • If you need to report street lights that are not working properly, you should know that the District repairs lights on metal poles. Lights on wooden poles are repaired by BC Hydro. Please contact the Operations Centre to report all outages.
  • If you want to have a new stop sign or traffic light installed you need to contact the Engineering Department either by phone, in person or by letter. These requests are researched by our Traffic Technologist and Municipal Engineer for their recommendations and implementation.
  • If you need to locate your service connection - water, sanitary or storm you need to contact the Engineering Department either by phone, in person. If you are unable to locate the connection, you may call the Operations Centre for assistance.
  • If you need to turn your water off, you will find that most homes have a main water shut off which is located where the water connection enters the house, usually in the basement or crawlspace. You can shut off the water supply to the house by closing this faucet handle. If there is a leak or break which requires the water to be shut off at the property line, a water shut-off key can be borrowed from the Operations Centre.
  • If you need to report an after hours public works emergency please call the Operations Centre emergency line at 604-463-9581.
