The District of Maple Ridge purchases potable water from the Greater Vancouver Water District. The consistent and secure distribution of high quality potable water is maintained through hundreds of kilometres of water mains and connections throughout the District. The District of Maple Ridge takes the health of the water system very seriously. Weekly water samples are collected and sent to the Greater Vancouver Water District laboratory for testing.

Please call the Operations Centre immediately to report the following public work emergencies:

• water main break
• water service break or leak
• damaged or leaking fire hydrant
• flooding in house or street

The Operations Centre can help with the following:

• locating water service connection at property line
• water meter repairs
• requesting a water meter

Call the Engineering Department for help with the following processes:

• Installation of a new water service connection
• Disconnection of water service connection

Service Connection

Municipal side leak

The service connection between the municipal water main and owner's property line is the property of the District of Maple Ridge. The repair of any leaks in this section is the responsibility of the District of Maple Ridge. In most residences there is a shut-off or meter box at the property line. This is also the property and responsibility of the District of Maple Ridge.

Private side leak

The connection between the owner's property line and house is the resident's property. This is the responsibility of the owner to maintain and repair if a leak or break occurs.

Locating service connection

To locate the water service connection at the property line, please call the Operations Centre. The approximate location of the water shut-off will be given to the caller. In addition, a request can be made for the Waterworks Department to assist in locating a difficult to find water shut-off.

Water Conservation

To help ensure sustainability for the present and the future, it is important that we become more efficient in our water use. By reducing our demand and waste today, we help ensure the future of our water system. The Greater Vancouver Regional District's website, www.gvrd.bc.ca, provides many tips and techniques on residential and business conservation initiatives, as well as advice on how to check in and around the house for water leaks.

Water Meters

Water services for the following uses shall be metered:

1. all non-residential uses
2. all services, water and service connection 25 millimetres in diameter and larger
3. all properties with inground pools or inground sprinkler systems
4. all properties greater than 0.4 hectares in area

Any consumer may make an application to the Waterworks Department requesting a water meter be installed. The cost of installing any meter on a new water service shall be borne by the consumer. Meters on private property are to be installed by the consumer and will be subject to inspection prior to the water service being turned on. The cost of installing any meter on an existing water service shall be borne by the District of Maple Ridge. All meters placed on existing water services will be installed by the Waterworks Department.

When any consumer whose water service is metered makes a complaint that the water service account is excessive, the Waterworks Department will, upon written request, have the meter re-read.

Water Shut-Off Keys

A water shut off key can be borrowed from the Operations Centre. A refundable $30.00 deposit is required at time of pick up and the key must be returned within 30 days for refund. Contact the Operations Centre for further information. top
