Electors Encouraged to Register by June 30
June 18, 2008 / 8:00 AM
This year is an election year for local government in British Columbia and voters will be asked to head to the polls on November 15 to cast ballots for Mayor, Council members and School Board trustees. Maple Ridge uses the Province of B.C. Voters List as its source to determine eligible voters. Therefore, citizens of Maple Ridge are reminded that they should visit Election BC's website at www.elections.bc.ca before June 30 to ensure they are registered and if not, to do so. Registering early will make your trip to the poll quicker and easier. A qualified voter:
- is a Canadian citizen;
- is 18 years of age or more on general voting day;
- has lived in BC for at least six months before you register to vote; and
- has lived in the municipality, regional district or school district where you wish to vote for 30 days or more before you register to vote.
It is important to vote in all elections. The simple act of marking a ballot connects you to the people making decisions that affect your daily life.
