Maple Ridge, BC: Further to the Premier's announcement yesterday regarding the Province's new Transit Plan and after a discussion today with Transportation Minister Kevin Falcon, Mayor Gordy Robson is pleased to report that Maple Ridge will see a new RapidBus service coming to the community, specifically into the downtown area.
"After the Premier's announcement yesterday there was some confusion about some parts of the plan," said Mayor Robson. "I want to be sure that there is a commitment to bring the new RapidBus service into our downtown where we are currently constructing a new transit exchange. I spoke with Minister Falcon today who explained that the plans announced so far are conceptual in nature but he did state that Maple Ridge would see this new service available in the downtown area."
There is no timeline for this part of the project as of yet other than having it in place by 2020. Currently talks are being arranged with various municipalities and other agencies regarding the proposed transit plan. More details along with a construction timetable is expected at a later date when more concrete planning has been completed.
"Council is pleased with this latest announcement and is looking forward to a RapdiBus service that will complement the District's plans to become a leading sustainable community," said the Mayor.
