Maple Ridge, BC: Maple Ridge Council has ratified a new collective agreement between the District of Maple Ridge and CUPE Local 622 which represents over 400 employees including recreation leaders, equipment operators, planners and inspectors. The new five year agreement runs from April 1, 2007 to March 31, 2012.
"The District is pleased that a new agreement has been reached," said Mayor Gordy Robson. "The District enjoys a very positive working relationship with its CUPE employees and the CUPE Executive. This deal will further that relationship and allow the District to retain and attract quality employees." The Agreement, which was ratified by CUPE Local 622 members on April 24, 2008 and approved by Council on Monday, May 5, 2008, matches similar wage increases (17.5% over the five years) negotiated in other cities throughout the region.
"We are happy to have a 5 year agreement," said CUPE Local 622 Spokesman Paul Juoksu. "We are pleased to have made some gains in the benefits our members receive and reach the same wage settlement as the rest of the region. "The members of C.U.P.E. 622 look forward to continuing to provide excellent service to the community of Maple Ridge."
