Province Approves $2.085 million for Maple Ridge Dike Improvements
Maple Ridge, BC: The District of Maple Ridge was advised today that the Provincial Ministry of the Environment has approved $2,085,000 for dike improvements in the Albion area of Maple Ridge.
The work involves upgrading a pump station plus widening, strengthening and filling low spots on the 2km Albion Dike that runs along the Fraser River from Kanaka Creek to just west of the Albion Ferry. The work will not increase the height of the dike. The District is now in the process of finalizing agreements with the contractors who will perform the works and anticipate that construction will begin next week.
Mayor Gordy Robson praised the area's MLA for his assistance in securing the funding: "I want to thank Randy Hawes for his help in getting these funds approved quickly. We've got less than six weeks to get ready for potentially record-high river levels and we have a lot of work to do in that time."
