232 and 240 Streets Getting Facelifts
Maple Ridge, BC: The District of Maple Ridge has initiated two major road improvements. One along 240 Street between Dewdney Trunk Road and 113A Avenue and the other on 232 Street between Fern Crescent and the South Alouette Bridge. Double M Excavating Ltd. will be doing the work on behalf of the District and should have the 240 Street project completed by early 2009 while work on 232 Street should be done by end of this fall.
"Work will begin on both of these projects immediately", said Mayor Gordy Robson. "Although the travelling public, motorists especially, who regularly use either of these routes may run into some minor delays and inconveniences during construction, I am sure people will be pleased with the end results."
The 240 Street project will be getting two additional travel lanes, new bike lanes on either side of the road, separated walking paths, street lighting, and drainage improvements while 232 upgrades include bike lanes, a new sidewalk, street lighting, a roundabout and improvements to drainage, parking and horse trails. The total cost of these projects is $3.7 million.
These projects will bring much needed improvements to two of the many important arterial routes in Maple Ridge by better accommodating traffic flow, providing dedicated bicycle lanes, upgrading the parking area in Maple Ridge Park and enhancing overall safety for pedestrians, horseback riders and motorists.
