The Engineering Department provides munici­pal engi­neering services to residents of Maple Ridge. Municipal Engineering is the application of engineering methods to the analysis, planning, design, construction, and re­cord keeping of public works facilities and programs relating to infrastructure. Central to the business of the depart­ment are four core customer service areas including Drainage and Terrain Engineering, Transportation and Traffic Engineering, Wastewater (Sewer) Engineering, and Waterworks Engineering.

The department provides management, plan­ning, analysis, policy, program and project develop­ment, initia­tion, implementa­tion, and evaluation. These core ser­vices are man­dated through a series of bylaws such as the Water, Sewer, Soil, Subdivision, and Street and Traffic Control. Services are managed with an emphasis on im­proved service quality, technology utili­zation, risk man­agement, and environmental perform­ance. This is important because the infrastructure assets of the Dis­trict in water distribution, roads, sewage, and drainage collection systems are estimated at approximately $440 million.
