Former Japanese Kingergarten built in 1936On Saturday February 12, 2000, the former Japanese Kindergarten located at 11739 - 223 Street, now home to the Fraser Information Society's C.E.E.D. Centre was presented with a District of Maple Ridge Heritage Plaque.

Present at the ceremony, were then Mayor Hogarth and members of Council, the Heritage  Advisory Committee, the Fraser Information Society, MLA Bill Hartley, neighbours and heritage supporters.

The former Japanese Kindergarten was built in 1936 and was  used as a commu nity hall by the Japanese community. In 1989, the Building was threatened with demolition.  To protect Former Japanese Kindergarten built in 1936it, Esso Canada then owners of the property, donated the building to the Fraser Information Society, who moved it to its current location. The District of Maple Ridge provided the land the building sits on today.

The Fraser Information Society's Community Education on Environment and Development (C.E.E.D.) Centre won a District of Maple Ridge Heritage Award for Commercial Heritage in 1996 for their maintenance of this historic building.
