Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness

The City of Maple Ridge recognizes that as our community continues to grow so does the need to become more inclusive. As a result of a recently adopted bylaw the Accessibility Advisory Committee now has a new name, an expanded mandate and membership.  Previously known as the Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility Issues the Committee is now known as the Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness (MACAI). The updated membership will increase representation from different sectors of the community, including youth, seniors and LGBTQ2S members.  MACAI is a joint Committee of the City of Maple Ridge and the City of Pitt Meadows.  Interested in getting involved? The Committee includes up to five local residents, eight representatives from government and community agencies, and representatives of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Councils. 

About the Committee

The Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness (MACAI) advises Council on the enhancement of accessibility and inclusivity for present and future citizens. MACAI strives to remove the social, physical and psychological barriers that prevent people from fully participating in all aspects of community life. The committee's focus is to create equal access in the areas of employment, education, housing, transportation and recreation. Projects include sensitivity training for municipal staff and residents to create a greater awareness regarding accessibility issues, public facility design consultations and an annual award program.
